Mumbai, Nov. 21 : Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Wednesday disclosed that 26/11 Mumbai terror attack accused Ajmal Kasab was buried inside the campus of Pune's Yerwada Jail shortly after his execution.
Chavan informed that Kasab, who was hanged at Yerwada Central Jail at 7: 30 a.m. today, was moved to Pune from Mumbai two days ago.
"Additional sessions Judge had fixed the date for hanging, and the sentence was carried out accordingly. Kasab has been buried in Yerwada jail. He had refused a will. With this it has been proved that India's rule of law prevails. If someone breaks the law of land, he will be punished, even if it takes time and expenses. Any attack on the country will not be tolerated," he added.
25-year-old Kasab had been lodged in the Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai ever since he was arrested immediately after the attack in 2008. He was convicted and given capital punishment by the trial court on May 6, 2010, which was upheld by the Bombay High Court on February 21, 2011.
